Regional Agile Delivery Lead at Eliassen Group

Amr is a software development practitioner, seasoned teacher and coach who thrives on delighting his clients. By bringing together expertise in business-focused agile adoption, systems thinking, and the human dynamics of software development, Amr has been able to consistently help teams and organizations create spectacular results and get the most from their Agile and Lean adoption initiatives. Amr's specialties include program and project management, test-first programming, and evolutionary design and architecture.

Corporate culture is Amr’s current passion. Creating high-performance teams are rare; Agile methods are a great toolset, but they are not enough. For the type of success where teams are 2x, 5x, and 10x better – and remain so, they need the technical practices (from agile/ lean/ etc.) as well as individual human dynamics and a business environment that supports and encourages the correct behavior.

A sought-after speaker for conferences around the world, Amr is the author of Agile Adoption Patterns: A Roadmap To Organizational Success and Patterns of Agile Software Adoption. He holds a Masters in Computer Science from Utah State. He currently lives in Cairo, Egypt.

Pragmatic Approaches to Performance: Bring Your Challenges

Performance is a complex but essential aspect of every production system. The ever-increasing complexity of software creates increasing challenges for architects and developers that defy traditional software approaches and "best practices."

Join your peers to share stories and challenges from real-world performance issues. What are the performance issues that your team is facing? How did you manage to solve them? And what have you learned in the process?

Utilize the group's brainpower to uncover new insights, validate your approach, and find solutions on performance and its relation to other attributes of your system, like scalability and reliability.

Important: The latest version of Zoom is required.

What is the Open Space technology?

Open Space is a kind of unconference, a simple way to run productive meetings for 5 to 2000 or more people, and a powerful way to lead any kind of organization in everyday practice and extraordinary change.

Why are we doing Unconferences with Open Space Technology?

We’re doing Unconferences at QCon because we want this conference to be yours. At QCon, we learn from the best and share with the best. We come with passions and ideas that we want to share with each other. We want to connect with each other, create community around topics that we’re passionate about. We do that with Open Space.

How does Open Space work?

The Law of Two Feet means you take responsibility for what you care about -- standing up for that and using your own two feet to move to whatever place you can best contribute and/or learn.

Four principles apply to how you navigate in open space:

  • Whoever comes is the right people
Whoever is attracted to the same conversation are the people who can contribute most to that conversation—because they care. So they are exactly the ones—for the whole group-- who are capable of initiating action.
  • Whatever happens is the only thing that could've
We are all limited by our own pasts and expectations.  This principle acknowledges we'll all do our best to focus on NOW-- the present time and place-- and not get bogged down in what could've or should've happened.
  • When it starts is the right time
The creative spirit has its own time, and our task is to make our best contribution and enter the flow of creativity when it starts.
  • When it's over, it's over
Creativity has its own rhythm. So do groups.
