Apollo Federation Deep Dive - Building Your Data Graph with Workbench
GraphQL offers the promise of enabling developers to design and evolve product-driven APIs while allowing clients to query data from a single endpoint and any number of data sources. But as GraphQL adoption gains traction across teams, companies often face challenges when designing their architecture. Either they have a monolithic API that slows down developer velocity, or they may have multiple APIs with some overlap between them but no full representation of their queryable data.
Ultimately, the actual value of the data graph is its network effect. The more teams onboarded and contributing to the graph - the more valuable the graph becomes as it becomes rich with capabilities.
In this talk, I’ll explore how Apollo Federation empowers teams to manage portions of the overall data graph across a distributed architecture. We’ll use Apollo Workbench to see how Apollo Federation’s declarative, incremental approach to GraphQL consolidation allows teams to draw service boundaries based on an intuitive separation of concerns and without the trade-offs of a monolithic GraphQL API.
